The check valve prevents backow in the piping system. The pressure of the uid passing through a pipeline opens the valve, while any reversal of ow will close the valve. An important concept in check valves is the cracking pressure which is the minimum dierential upstream pressure between inlet and outlet at which the valve will operate. Typically the check valve is designed for and can therefore be specied for a specic cracking pressure.
